Indian Media Reported

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is expected to relocate the upcoming Asia Cup from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, as the Indian team has declined to travel across the border. A final decision on the venue is anticipated by the end of May, with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan supporting the move to host the event in Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s participation in the tournament is currently unclear, as reports suggest they might boycott the event.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wishes to hold the tournament at home, other ACC member nations, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), have expressed support for the event to be moved. The PCB proposed a hybrid model to host the Asia Cup, with India's matches alone being held in Dubai, but this idea received no support from other teams or the tournament broadcaster. Furthermore, concerns were raised about playing in the Gulf region during peak summer in September, just a month before the 50-over World Cup.

Sri Lanka has emerged as an ideal location to host the event, with Oman offering to host the tournament in a recent informal meeting of ACC members. However, the conditions in Sri Lanka are believed to be more favorable for players than in Oman. The UAE has been ruled out as a possible host location due to the challenging conditions that players faced in the 2018 Asia Cup held in Dubai.

The ACC is set to make a final decision in the coming weeks, with Dambulla and Pallekele being considered as possible venues in Sri Lanka. If Sri Lanka hosts the event, Colombo will be avoided due to the monsoon season in September. Pakistan's participation in the tournament remains uncertain, and their decision to skip the Asia Cup could jeopardize their participation in the World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in October-November.

If Pakistan confirms their participation, the Asia Cup will be a six-team event featuring India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal, which qualified for the tournament by winning the ACC's Premier Cup. The Asia Cup switches between 20 and 50-over formats, depending on the ICC event to follow. India emerged as champions the last time the tournament was held in the 50-over format, beating Bangladesh in the final held in Dubai.
